H5 is usually enough
Used once or rarely; spread by SMS and posters; the entry expires; no need for a home-screen icon. External lookup, campaign pages and one-off pay pages fit.
Whether H5 is enough does not depend on how pretty the page is. It depends on whether people will tap a link for this job, and whether they can find the entry again tomorrow. H5’s hardest capability is instant open: SMS, official account, email, a poster URL. One tap is the page. No store. No follow required. Signup, one-off lookup, a glance at status—low-frequency work—H5 is often exactly enough.
Used once or rarely; spread by SMS and posters; the entry expires; no need for a home-screen icon. External lookup, campaign pages and one-off pay pages fit.
Opened many times a day; must push to a person; basement or plant needs offline submit; needs deep camera or Bluetooth. Patrol reporting stalls here.
Few excuses not to open H5. Many excuses not to download an APP. That is why H5 should exist—not as a fig leaf for “we do not have an APP yet.” External lookup as H5, high-frequency work as a mini program or APP, is closer to the floor than one do-everything client. When native is required is in When you actually need a native APP; WeChat versus Alipay is in WeChat Mini Program or Alipay Mini Program.
H5’s limits are just as clear. No store icon, so a second open is hard; push is weak; camera, Bluetooth and background location sit behind the browser; weak-network cache is yours to build. Pure H5 for patrol, reporting and approval sends the floor back to “I will fill it at the office later.” Long-lived membership and coupon redemption usually want a mini program. Compare Mini program or APP as the main entry and What belongs on a member mini program home.
Do not use “H5 is cheaper” as the only reason. Cheap with no second open is the same as not building it. List the three to five phone actions, then pick the container. DaXi picks by role and place. We do not default to an APP. How to estimate cost is in What APP, mini program and H5 cost, and how long they take. If nobody uses it after launch, follow Launched, unused: how to diagnose —do not blame the container first.
A common mix: customers get an H5 for status; employees get a mini program or APP to report. That is not duplicate build. Roles differ. Customers will not queue a store for one shipment lookup. Employees need an icon that stays. Cram both into one H5 and you offend both—customers find login too heavy, employees cannot find the entry tomorrow. Instant-open only answers “this time it opened,” not “will they come back.”
Pay and login are the two H5 steps that fail acceptance. WeChat in-app, Safari and WeCom each handle cookies and jumps differently. The plan must name the pay channel, what users see on login fail, and who replaces an expired link. Write those into the device checklist. Cheaper than learning after launch that only the planner’s phone can pay. To judge whether H5 alone is enough, send the places of use to the Apps & Mini Programs.
In WeChat, H5 is sometimes blocked as an external link. Test login and pay against each platform’s rules. Open the same URL from SMS, WeCom and Safari. Confirm it is not only “fine” on office Wi-Fi.
When the campaign domain changes, points and orders vanish with it. Containers can mix. Accounts must be one. Poster short links must point at a domain you can change—not a third-party temp page. A dead link the day the campaign ends tells customers the entry is unreliable.
H5, mini program and APP can coexist: lookup via link, internal reporting via mini program or APP. Send the places of use. We pick by whether a real device can finish—not by defaulting to a client.
