A four-meter screen goes live in the conference room. Visitors take photos. Three months later, store managers still ask in the group whether margin includes returns, and finance still sends its own sheet. The BI license renews every year. Usage stops at the front desk. Buying a tool is not the same as building an operations dashboard.
Clicks do nothing. Numbers come from last week's Excel export. Alerts are off. Permission: visitors can see it.

The left screen is for tours. The right one is for the weekly meeting. The difference is not color. It is whether you can ask downward.
Decorative BI has a fixed pattern: no written definitions; data is poured in by hand; refresh depends on mood; exceptions flash red and nobody is assigned; leadership looks and leaves; operations never logs in. Why is it the same as doing nothing? An operations dashboard is accepted after parallel reports are turned off, and the weekly meeting no longer reconciles tables. Off-the-shelf BI can be the right tool when definitions are locked, the model is clean, and analysts can change charts themselves. DaXi does not start a project from a wall-screen rendering. Tours are fine. Decisions must open documents. If you already bought a license and nobody looks, do not rush to switch tools. Keep demo data out of production
Separate demo data from production. Fake numbers for visitors slowly teach the company not to trust real ones. Once trust drops, decoration becomes a liability.
The lobby screen can keep a brand layer, but it must be labeled “not the operations definition.” The weekly meeting, store managers, and crews only trust the set that drills. Two pictures can coexist. Two truths cannot.
Before you renew the license, open the back office and look at monthly active users: do store managers and finance log in, or is only the lobby lit? If activity is near zero, stop decorative requests and move the budget to definitions and drill-down. A renewal is not proof that you already “did data.”
