SimtoLink: 5G and 4G SIMs can live in one project

August 1, 2026 DaXi Technology

ThingsBoard is a full-featured open-source IoT platform developed by a Ukrainian team. It provides end-to-end capabilities such as device management, asset management, a rule engine, data visualization, alerts, and multi-tenancy. It supports MQTT, CoAP, HTTP, LwM2M, and other protocols, and it includes charts, maps, and control widgets for building IoT monitoring screens and applications quickly. It uses a Java/Spring stack, supports cluster deployment, and suits small and mid-size IoT projects that need to go live quickly. It offers a community edition (Apache 2.0) and a professional edition (commercial support and advanced features).

Devices, assets, rules, and alerts

Multi-level organization of devices, assets, tenants, and customers. Devices support attributes, telemetry, and RPC. Assets can be linked to devices for grouping and permission management. Device credentials, provisioning, and batch import are supported.

Visual rule chains cover message filtering, transformation, alerts, and forwarding. Alert rules, alert acknowledgment, and alert notification are supported. Messages can be forwarded to external systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, and HTTP. This links with device telemetry, attributes, and events.

Dashboards and multi-tenant architecture

Drag-and-drop dashboards, with charts, maps, and controls. Real-time data, history curves, and alert lists are supported. The multi-tenant architecture supports SaaS and white label. A tenant can create customers, and a customer can manage devices and assets.

How it is positioned, and where it fits

ThingsBoard is positioned differently from EMQX and Home Assistant: EMQX focuses on MQTT access, while ThingsBoard is a complete platform; Home Assistant focuses on the smart home, while ThingsBoard is more general. ThingsBoard suits business scenarios such as industrial monitoring, smart agriculture, energy management, and device operations, and it can connect industrial protocols such as Modbus and OPC-UA through a gateway. In SimtoLink IoT plans, ThingsBoard can be chosen as a platform that goes live quickly, used together with IoT SIMs, EMQX, and similar pieces.

Use cases include industrial monitoring, smart agriculture, energy management, device operations, and smart buildings. It suits small and mid-size IoT projects, from thousands to tens of thousands of devices, that need to go live quickly. Together with EMQX, Modbus gateways, and similar components, it can connect many kinds of devices. The community is active and the documentation is complete, and it is a popular choice among open-source IoT platforms.
