SimtoLink: A cold-store gateway collects several temperature probes
Cold-store temperature-zone mapping and probe placement emphasize connecting sensing, edge computing, and the cloud over cellular IoT in real operations. Inside a cold store there are temperature gradients from door warm-up, short-cycling fans, and rack shading. Probes should cover entrances and exits, the downstream side of fans, dead corners, and high-risk SKU areas, and the layout should be iterated with CFD or an empirical model.
Traceability and data definitions
Cold chain and food operations require continuous temperature and traceable evidence. IoT-card backhaul should first protect timestamp consistency and data integrity at critical control points, and should align batch numbers and handover points with warehouse, transport, and store systems, to support recall, audit, and insurance claims. The platform and the site should also agree a common version baseline, configuration-drift checks, and a change window, so data definitions do not split because parameters were changed on site without the platform knowing.
Technical characteristics
An IoT gateway aggregates multi-point probes and uploads them to the cloud for heat maps and alert-rule configuration. The calibration plan should be part of quality management so probe drift does not cause false or missed alerts.
SimtoLink supports policy combinations such as private network, public network, multiple APNs, and VPDN, which helps the platform with unified authentication, allowlists, and traffic control. Capacity planning that combines heartbeat interval and reporting granularity can lower the risk of interruption under weak networks and roaming.
Applications
This suits third-party cold-chain warehouses, port cold stores, and large distribution centers. A gateway inside the warehouse aggregates multi-point temperatures and sends them back to support zoned temperature control and audit.
In implementation, heat maps can be bound to WMS locations and batches, and graded alerts can connect to on-site inspection and carrier handover. Critical nodes can use cellular and wired as primary and backup, and agreed metrics such as report success rate and latency make troubleshooting easier.
