SimtoLink: Soil stations upload temperature and moisture hourly

December 30, 2025 DaXi Technology

SimtoLink's multi-depth soil-moisture tube integrates several FDR (frequency-domain reflectometry) sensing zones on one probe to obtain a volumetric water-content profile at different depths, for precision irrigation, drought assessment, and research plots. The probe supports multi-point soil calibration and temperature compensation, which reduces reading bias from differences in soil.

Product overview and engineering role

SimtoLink provides burial-depth guidance, an RS485 register map, and both battery and external-power forms (as ordered). Data can be aggregated by a gateway to an irrigation controller or an agricultural IoT platform. Volume orders can customize tube length and the number of layers.

Reliability and site fit

For electrical safety and EMC, the product passes CCC-related test items, and the ports have surge and reverse-polarity protection. The structure uses reinforced grounding and partitioned layout to reduce ground-loop and common-mode interference. For outdoor or coastal sites, a higher protection rating and an anti-corrosion coating are available.

On the software side, batch parameter import, threshold policies, and event video or waveform recording are supported (depending on the model), and configuration and firmware can be updated over OTA. SimtoLink recommends a three-step site acceptance: power-on self-test, communication time sync, and a sampling check. For metering or safety-related uses, it can assist with third-party metrology-institute submission and type-test documents.

Parameters, scenarios, and maintenance

The key hardware parameters below are for a typical configuration of this model, for engineering selection and for technical clauses in a tender. The sensor type is multi-layer FDR dielectric, for profile water content. The number of measurement layers is multi-depth, typically 3–6 layers, and can be customized. Water-content range is 0–100% vol after calibration, and depends on the soil. Update rate starts at 4 Hz and is configurable. Communication is RS485, with a low-power strategy. Power is a 3.6 V battery or an external supply, balancing life and sleep. Protection is IP67, for burial and outdoor use. Operating temperature is −23 to 64 °C, industrial grade. Material is stainless steel or an anti-corrosion material, for long-term burial. Calibration supports multi-point soil calibration and return to the factory. For a wider range, redundant power, or an intrinsically safe explosion-proof variant, contact SimtoLink for the Hardware Specification and the Installation and Commissioning Guide. Order codes in the same family may differ slightly. The nameplate and the documents shipped with the unit prevail.

In open fields and protected agriculture, drip and sprinkler zones start and stop from the profile water content, which reduces the case where the surface is too wet while the deeper soil is dry. In orchards and ecological restoration, moisture change in the root-activity layer supports survival assessment for planting and a tending irrigation plan. Research and meteorological field sites can combine the data with evapotranspiration and rain-gauge data for hydrological model calibration and small-watershed trials.

Before power-on, confirm the supply range and polarity, and use a multimeter to recheck bus voltage and breaker capacity when needed. Use shielded twisted pair for communication cables, grounded at one end, and do not bundle them with high-power cables over a long run. For first go-live, finish two-way read/write and threshold-trigger checks with the platform in the lab, then move to the site. Outdoor installation should drain and breathe first, and sealing faces should be inspected regularly. Lightning-protection ground resistance should meet local rules. For long-term operation, do a sampling check and archive logs every 6 months.

SimtoLink provides the hardware specification, mechanical drawings, a wiring table, and a sample project. Volume orders support sample review and in-plant inspection. Warranty and calibration follow the contract and the documents shipped with the goods.
