SimtoLink: Vending machines report sales and online state

August 18, 2025 DaXi Technology

Channel distribution, consumer scan-to-pay, VMS remote maintenance, and ad delivery enable intelligent operations for unattended retail.

Solution overview

The self-service vending solution is for equipment makers, operators, agents, and brand owners. Over IoT, it connects vending machines, smart shelves, and other unattended retail equipment. Self-service vending is a core form of unattended retail. Machines are widely placed in malls, metro stations, airports, universities, factories, communities, and other sites. Points are scattered, SKUs are varied, restocking and dispatch are complex, and the value of the advertising screen is still to be developed.

Over a 4G cellular connection, this solution provides channel-distribution management (multi-level agents, equipment placement, revenue sharing and settlement, and reconciliation), consumer scan-to-pay collection (WeChat, Alipay, and UnionPay QuickPass, with transactions reported in real time and revenue shared and settled), VMS remote maintenance (remote monitoring, fault alarms, over-the-air updates, and restock reminders), and advertising-screen content delivery (remote updates of video and images, and placement statistics). Average monthly data use per machine is 100–500 MB. Because ad content is delivered and transaction data is reported in real time, use is higher than for a payment-only device. Multi-level agents, equipment leasing, and brand-owned operation are supported.

Policy, data use, and selection

The Ministry of Commerce guidance on high-quality convenience-store development encourages unattended retail and intelligent vending. The State Administration for Market Regulation sets requirements for food-safety traceability and payment security on automatic vending equipment. Average monthly data use per machine is 100–500 MB, made up of about 20–50 MB of transaction data, with each transaction reported in real time for reconciliation; about 10–30 MB of inventory status, including lane occupancy and sales statistics; about 50–400 MB of ad content, including video and image delivery and play logs; and about 20–50 MB of VMS operations, including fault alarms, over-the-air updates, and remote control. A machine with an advertising screen uses significantly more data than a payment-only machine.

Sites are often in weak coverage such as underground garages, metro concourses, and corridors, where Wi-Fi is unavailable or poor. 4G cellular connectivity keeps payment, restock reminders, and ad delivery reliable. SimtoLink provides data pools and large-data plans, and supports API integration with VMS, payment clearing, and ad-delivery platforms. A payment-only machine, with no advertising screen, uses about 100–150 MB per month, and a Cat.1 module is enough at the lowest cost. A machine with an advertising screen uses about 300–500 MB per month. Cat.4 or above is recommended, with resume for large files and off-peak delivery at night. New machines leave the factory with an IoT SIM preinstalled. Existing machines can be fitted with a 4G communications module. When connecting to a VMS, confirm the protocol, such as MQTT or an HTTP API. Restock work orders, inventory warnings, and revenue-sharing rules need to match the business system.

Core functions and connectivity

Channel-distribution management covers multi-level agents, equipment placement, revenue sharing and settlement, and reconciliation, with sales and revenue counted by region and by channel. Consumer collection includes scan-to-pay, WeChat, and Alipay. Transactions are reported in real time, revenue can be shared automatically by agent and by site, and the flow connects to the payment-clearing system. VMS operations include remote monitoring, fault alarms, over-the-air updates, and restock reminders. Inventory status and sales data are reported in real time, and restock work orders can be generated intelligently. Ad delivery supports remote updates of screen content, placement statistics, and delivery and scheduling of video and images. Typical sites include metro concourses, airports, and high-speed rail stations; universities and factory campuses; malls and communities; and office buildings and hospital waiting areas.

SimtoLink provides 4G IoT SIMs, data pools, and API integration with VMS and payment systems, and supports bulk SIM activation and revenue-sharing reconciliation for channel partners. Sites are often in weak coverage such as underground spaces and corridors, and intelligent switching across carriers keeps the connection stable. The solution can connect to a device-management platform, an ERP, and an ad-delivery platform, closing the loop from end to end.
