SimtoLink: A status API for the customer's own system
Equipment condition monitoring, together with CBM (condition-based maintenance) and PHM (prognostics and health management), is a core application of industrial IoT and smart manufacturing. Vibration, temperature, and current sensors collect, transmit, and analyze equipment operating data in the cloud in real time, supporting fault warning, predictive maintenance, and spectrum analysis, which reduces unplanned downtime and extends equipment life. The SimtoLink IoT SIM is a core component that connects industrial gateways and acquisition terminals, and it carries vibration data, temperature data, alarm signals, and other critical data.
Overview of equipment condition monitoring
SimtoLink focuses on industrial IoT and provides stable, reliable connectivity for customers in manufacturing, energy, mining, ports, and other industries. The 4G, NB-IoT, and LTE Cat.1 IoT SIMs from SimtoLink support the networks of China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Telecom, covering 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, and can be selected according to the deployment environment, sampling rate, and data volume. SimtoLink also provides a professional IoT SIM management platform with full-lifecycle functions such as data monitoring, plan management, and fault diagnosis.
Typical scenarios and connectivity needs
Equipment condition monitoring covers rotating equipment, motors and pumps, wind and solar, production lines, and critical assets. Sampling rate, data volume, and real-time requirements differ by scenario. Typical applications and IoT SIM selection guidance follow.
Fans, compressors, pumps, motors, and other rotating equipment collect vibration data through vibration sensors and accelerometers. Edge computing or the cloud then performs spectrum analysis and fault diagnosis. A 4G IoT SIM reports waveform data, feature values, and alarm signals, meeting CBM predictive-maintenance needs.
Data volume and consumption
In equipment condition monitoring, monthly data use per device is about 50–200 MB. Actual use depends on sampling rate, packet size, and whether waveform data, spectrum data, or video is involved. In a typical setup, a 4G network carrying vibration feature values, temperature, and alarm data uses about 2–7 MB per device per day. If high-frequency waveforms or spectrum data are involved, use can reach several hundred MB. NB-IoT suits low-frequency feature-value reporting, at about 5–20 MB per month.
Allow 20–30 percent spare capacity for the difference between peak and off-peak traffic. SimtoLink supports data-pool plans, so many IoT SIMs share one pool and can absorb changes in fleet size. The management platform provides real-time data monitoring and alerts, and raises an alarm when usage reaches a set threshold. To reduce data use, edge preprocessing, feature-value compression, and threshold-triggered reporting can be used.
