Kandiantong: A group price and a solo price can both exist

June 16, 2025 DaXi Technology

Group buying is one of the most classic and effective social-fission plays in private-domain commerce. It uses the social chain to drive users to share on their own, which acquires customers at low cost and grows sales quickly. This article looks closely at how to design, run, and improve a group-buying campaign.

The core value of a group-buying campaign

Low-cost acquisition: new users come through shares, and CAC falls by 60% to 80%. A fast burst of sales: social fission brings exponential growth. Higher average order value: to complete the group, users are willing to buy more. Stronger trust: a recommendation from someone you know is more persuasive than an ad. Social assets stay: users who join a group become private-domain users.

Group size and time to form

A 2-person group forms fastest and converts best, and it suits high-frequency products. A 3-person group balances fission and conversion, and it is the most commonly used. A 5-person group has stronger fission and suits major promotions. A 10-person group suits high-value products or brand exposure. Reference figures: a 2-person group forms 70% to 80% of the time, a 3-person group 50% to 60%, and a 5-person group 30% to 40%. On time to form, 24 hours is the most common. 48 hours gives users more time to find people and forms at a higher rate. 12 hours creates urgency. 72 hours suits a large group.

Price structure and a group that fails

An example of a three-layer price: 100 yuan to buy alone, 88 yuan to open a group, and 69 yuan when the group succeeds. The design principle is that the group price should be 30% to 50% below the solo price. The gap has to be large enough to stimulate sharing. Products that suit group buying include everyday goods, food, and mother-and-baby products with a strong price-to-quality ratio, plus snacks, fruit, and home goods that are easy to share. An order value of 30 to 200 yuan is not too expensive and is easy to decide on. Products that do not suit group buying include niche goods that are not daily needs, high-priced luxury goods, private products, and products that are too seasonal.

If a group fails, the payment can be refunded automatically to the original payment method. It can also convert to a full-price purchase, with the user choosing to pay the difference. The system can automatically extend the group by 12 hours. Or a coupon can be given to guide the next purchase. A successful group also depends on how large the discount is, a headcount of 2 or 3, a moderate time to form, and posters and one-tap sharing that are easy to share.
